Robert E. Diamond, Jr., President of Barclays PLC and CEO of Corporate & Investment Banking and Wealth Management, addressed the topic of financial reform, economic growth, and the Transatlantic Dialogue at an event at the Peterson Institute on June 23, 2010. He focused on the impact of financial reform on the US and world economies and on reconciling the different perspectives on reform in Europe and the United States. Senior Fellow William Cline, who has written extensively on and participated actively in the ongoing debate on financial reform, led the subsequent discussion.
Robert E. Diamond has been a member of the Barclays Group Executive Committee since 1997 and is also a board member of BlackRock following its integration with Barclays Global Investors. He was formerly Vice Chairman and Head of Global Fixed Income and Foreign Exchange at CS First Boston, and Managing Director and Head of Fixed Income Trading for Morgan Stanley International. Mr. Diamond played a central role in Barclays' acquisition of Lehman Brothers' North American businesses in September 2008.
