Lawrence H. Summers, Director of the National Economic Council and Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, spoke on the topic "Rescuing and Rebuilding the US Economy: A Progress Report" at an event held July 17, 2009 at the Peterson Institute.
Summers has been President Obama's chief economic adviser throughout the transition period and since the start of the new Administration. He was previously Charles W. Eliot University Professor of Economics at Harvard, President of Harvard University, and Secretary of the Treasury under President Clinton. Before returning to government, he was a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Peterson Institute Advisory Committee.
